There are so many things to do in the Channel Islands Harbor and along its beaches. There are activities that go on all the time, and special events that happen every year such as Whale Watching, Tall Ship Tours, Boats Shows, Annual Fireworks Displays, and they also have a Christmas Lighted Boat Parade every year. With over 750 private docks, 12 full service marinas, and yacht clubs, the Channel Islands Harbor is a fisherman’s paradise. There are still many more activities to do in the harbor any day such as kayaking and sport fishing, or plan a nice day out to the Fisherman’s Wharf and Harbor Landing, visit the Sunday Farmer’s market to get some locally grown produce, get some fresh baked goods or even try the fresh “catch of the morning”

Juan used to “summer” his boat in Channel Islands Harbor for many years and still talks about it!  The great beer can races and constant winds, the variety of activities (the many restaurants and pubs with sail-in parking) and the proximity to the Channel Islands.  It wasn’t summer without a week or two out cruising.  Known as the Gateway to the Channel Islands; 11 miles to Anacapa, 18 to Santa Cruz Island and cruising distance to Santa Rosa, San Miguel and Santa Barbara Islands, Channel Islands Harbor is home to over 2,600 boats.  Commissioned in May of 1965 and owned by the County of Ventura, the harbor now is host to 4 yacht clubs and 9 marinas and year-round events, both on and off the water.

The first phase of the renovation project of Channel Islands Harbor in Oxnard, which began in 2007, will be completed in July, 2008. Marine Emporium Landing invested more than $10 million in improvements to visitor serving retail center and the 34-year-old wood docks and brought them up to current safety standards. The new docks, including the ones at Marine Emporium Landing, now include power, water, and access to fire safety equipment.  More improvements are in the works…

Another comes a popular market with local citizens of the community who stop by weekly and shop some fresh and directly sold produce from as well local farmers of Channel Island. Located at the waterside of Harbor Boulevard which is adjacent to the Marine Emporium Landing Shopping Center is the Channel Islands Harbor Certified Farmers’ Market.

Aside from fresh grown produce, the market also offers fresh seafood like fish and live crabs. And not to mention, parking has never been a problem compared to when you go to the supermarket
