General Oak Park Info.  Oak Park homes are located in a wonderful  community of approximately 15,000, located in southeastern Ventura County. It covers an area of 4.1 square miles, half of which is comprised of open space and parks. The climate is “California Mediteranean”, with warm dry summers, and cool, rainy winters. The beautiful scenery of the hills and open space, the 20 minute drive to Malibu and its beaches, the accessability to shopping, dining, entertainment and downtown Los Angeles, and the award winning Oak Park Unified School District all make Oak Park a fabulous place to live, and Oak Park homes a fabulous investment in your family.

Background.  The area that is now known as Oak Park was originally a ranch owned by Jim and Marion (Driscoll) Jordan, know as “Fibber McGee and Molly”. The Jordan Ranch was mostly used to raise cattle. As the price of land went up, it became more profitable to sell the land for development. Louis and Mark Boyar, real estate developers, acquired the land that Oak Park homes now sit on.

The original Oak Park homes were built on Kanan, Brichwood, Oakleaf, Pinewood, Tamarind and Satinwood in 1968. The original Plan A homes sold for $23,000! The community attracted many home buyers from the San Fernando Valley and other areas, as it still does today. The final area of construction was Pardee’s Chambord Homes, now priced at over $1,000,000.

Parks, Sports, and Recreation. There are now seven parks in Oak Park – Mae Boyar, Oak Canyon Community Park, Deerhill, Valley View, Indian Springs, Chapparal, and Eagle View, all within easy reach of Oak Park neighborhoods and Oak Park homes. Ammenities in the parks include ball fields, tennis, and archery. Medea Creek is a park in itself, and there are many hikingand biking trails as well. The trails are maintained by Rancho Simi Recreation and Parks District. More information about the parks is available at http://www.rsrpd.org.

Oak Park Schools. When Oak Park was established, elementary school children went to Brookside Elementary School, while junior and senior high school kids went to Simi Valley. In 1970 and later, three requests to join Las Virgenes School District (which includes Agoura and Calabasas) were denied. On May 31, 1977, 93% of those voting approved the formation of Oak Park Unifed School District. We now have 1 preschool, 3 elementary schools (k-5), one middle school (6-8), a high school, an alternative high school, and a home school program.
